Description:  This course provides an understanding of the basic accounting cycle. You will learn to apply debits and credits, do transaction analysis, record transactions in the general journal, post to the general ledger, and record adjusting and closing entries. You will also learn to work with subsidiary ledgers and special journals.

Description:  This course covers federal laws pertaining to the computation and payment of salaries and wages. You will prepare employment records, timesheets, payroll register, employee earnings records and state and federal reports, including year-end reporting. You will learn and calculate the payroll cycle from timesheets to year-end reporting.

Description:  This course provides an in-depth exposure to the current version of Microsoft Excel. You will learn the basic tools of Microsoft Excel. Medical Office Administration majors will take this course for 3 credits. Must be taken A-F.

Description:  This course combines accounting cycle with key software skills using QuickBooks Accounting software. You will learn how to enter invoices; pay bills; process sales, inventory, and payroll; and print financial reports. You will also learn how to create a new business template using QuickBooks.

Description:  This course is an intermediate study of accounting theory and practices. You will gain an in-depth preparation and understanding of financial information using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). You will study topics on financial statements, time value of money, revenue recognition, cash and receivables, inventories, fixed assets, current liabilities, and shareholder’s equity. You will also learn to read and analyze annual reports and current trends in accounting.

Accounting Internship (ACCT 2252)

Credits:  2   Internship/Practicum:  2.00

Description:  This course provides students an opportunity to gain real-world experience while earning college credit(s). The knowledge you have gained in your prior business and accounting course work will be applied at a local organization partner site. In the prior semester, you will need to work with Minneapolis College Career Services Office to secure your internship. You will work jointly with an assigned instructor and the partner contacts to achieve the course objectives. At the end of semester, you will meet with your assigned instructor for final assessment.
