Description:  In this course, you will learn to transcribe dictated medical records. You will key dictated medical reports while being introduced to body systems and medical procedures. You will also learn common scientific terms relevant to speech recognition technology. You will learn differences between front-end and back-end speech recognition technology. You will also learn about productivity and quality issues and implications of speech recognition technology in the future of the Medical Transcription/Editor/Scribe industries. Must be taken A-F.

Human Diseases and Pharmacology (MEDS 1245)

Description:  This course introduces the diagnosis and treatment of the most common diseases and disorders affecting the various body systems. You will learn to distinguish between infectious, communicable, congenital, and neoplastic diseases. You will also learn the nature of diseases and signs and symptoms of specific diseases processes and how the healthcare provider might diagnose and treat the disease and the consequences for the patient. You will be introduced to diagnostic tests, treatment modalities, and medication protocols. You will be introduced to drugs and drug classes including forms and categories for common brand and generic drug names as well as routes of administration and documentation requirements. You will get an overview of basic principles and language of pharmacology and laboratory medicine. You will cover laboratory tests to explore indications, techniques, expression of values and significance of findings. Must be taken A-F.

Description:  This course introduces you to medical insurance reimbursement; medical insurance plans and payers; regulations and accreditation in medical insurance; claims processing sequence; collection of patient information; insurance verification; and encounter form preparation. You will also learn about linkage and compliance, provider payment calculations, claims preparation, and claims transmission. You will review coding guidelines, hospital claims and billing process.
