General Education Courses (30 Credits):

To complete the A.S. degree in Professional Nursing, students are required to successfully complete 30 credits of General Education coursework selected from at least six of the 10 MnTC Goal Areas. A minimum of three credits must be completed from Goal Area 1, and a minimum of three credits from Goal Areas 7, 8, 9 or 10.

The specific courses that are required for the A.S. degree are ENGL 1110, BIOL 2224, BIOL 2225, BIOL 2226, BIOL 2230, BIOL 2231, and PSYC 2240. This will satisfy 21 of the 30 required credits.  The nursing program curriculum as written includes Goal Areas 1, 3, 5 and 9.

Students continuing to Augsburg College to complete the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree should consider taking a minimum of three credits from MnTC Goal Area 6 and work closely with their advisors to select the remaining elective general education coursework. It is also recommended that students continuing on to Augsburg take NPRO 2300 Trends and Issues in Nursing. NPRO 2300 will transfer as a direct equivalent to Augsburg’s NURS 300 which is a required course for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
