MnTC Goal Area courses in this program may have different required placements and prerequisites, please see individual course requirements.

Description:

Minneapolis College's Welding and Metal Fabrication program will provide you with the technical knowledge and hands-on skills you need to gain entry level employment with manufacturing plants and various other industries. This program will introduce you to current welding and metal fabrication processes widely used in a great variety of work environments. Throughout the program, you will receive practical information on how metal fabrication processes work. Then, you will apply that knowledge in a hands-on environment by utilizing welding and metal fabrication equipment. By examining your projects with the instructor, you will begin to develop a skill and knowledge base that will be useful in shops and at work sites. In addition, you will learn about shop safety and safe work practices, blueprint reading, applied math, and general fabrication methods.

Program Learning Outcome #1:  Perform welder qualification tests to industry standards.

Program Learning Outcome #2:  Understand and safely utilize arc welding equipment and be able to perform SMAW, GMAW-S, GMAW-Spray transfer and GMAW-P, FCAW-S, FCAW-G and GTAW to industry standards.

Program Learning Outcome #3:  Understand and safely utilize manual and automated shop fabrication equipment and be able to use tools and equipment to fabricate parts.

Program Learning Outcome #4:  Interpret blueprints and welding symbols.

Program Learning Outcome #5:  Perform basic math and geometry, understand measurement fundamentals and be able to read measuring instruments including tape measures, machinists rule, caliper, squares and micrometers.

Program Learning Outcome #6:  Understand safety related to Oxy/Acetylene equipment and be able to perform BW and OFC-A and PAC.
