Admission Requirements:

Students are accepted into this program for fall, spring, and summer terms.

Early Childhood Education courses in these programs have a recommended minimum placements or prerequisites as follows:

MnTC Goal Area courses in this program may have different required placements and prerequisites, please see individual course requirements.

The Early Childhood Education Program also Requires:

  • Grades of “C” (2.0) or above in all ECED courses.
  • Passing of a criminal background check during the first class in ECED and yearly thereafter in order to be able to access programs in the community for assignments in course work as well as prior to a placement in practicum.
    • The college cannot guarantee a placement in practicum or for coursework observations for students who do not have a clear criminal background check.

Description:

The Minneapolis College Early Childhood Education program emphasizes excellence in attaining the skills required to work with diverse families and children. You will learn to create healthy, respectful and challenging environments in settings such as urban childcare centers, Head Start, family childcare, elementary classrooms and afterschool programs.

To complete the Early Childhood Education A.A.S. degree, students must successfully complete the MnTC general education courses as outlined above.

The Early Childhood Education Program also Requires:

All students pursuing this award should work closely with their advisor to ensure proper selection of required program courses, if applicable program electives, required Minnesota Transfer Curriculum courses, and MnTC electives. You are expected to meet with your advisor on a regular basis to ensure courses are taken in an order that will lead to efficient and successful completion of the required coursework.
