The Associate of Fine Arts Theatre Transfer Pathway offers students the opportunity to focus on gaining course credits that directly transfer to a Theatre Arts bachelor’s degree program at any one of the seven universities within the Minnesota State system that offers the major*.  The entire curriculum has been carefully designed to meet bachelor’s degree program requirements for transfer students planning initial study at a Minnesota State college. Students planning to transfer outside of the Minnesota State System are advised to consult with their intended transfer institution to determine transferability of the courses in this curriculum.

Minneapolis College's AFAP in Theatre will give you training in the basic skills necessary for creative expression in the performance and technical aspects of the theatre arts. The program integrates the artistic, technical and academic disciplines of theatre practice. You may choose an emphasis in acting, directing or technical theatre skills. You will also learn to interpret and understand global theatre history, as well as contemporary and classical dramatic literature

This transfer pathway in Associate of Fine Arts Pathway in Theatre, Theatre Performance, and Theatre Production and Design will transfer to the following majors:

  • Minnesota State University, Mankato: Theatre, BA or Theatre, BS
  • Minnesota State University Moorhead: Theatre Arts, BA

General Education Courses:

* MnTC Goal Area 3: Students must complete a minimum of two courses in two different disciplines, one course must have a traditional lab and the other course must have a traditional lab-or-lab-like experience from MnTC Goal Area 3. By taking the recommended courses, this goal area will be fulfilled.

**To complete the A.F.A. in Theatre, you must complete at least three courses from three different disciplines in MnTC Goal Areas 5 and 6. By taking the recommended courses, you will fulfill both of these Goal Areas.

Note:  If you do not plan to take the recommended courses, you will need to take 40 credits of MnTC eligible coursework. The courses you select must meet the requirements within each of the MnTC Goal Areas. You can refer to the MnTC requirements that are listed under the Minnesota General Education Transfer Curriculum Competencies. All students pursuing this degree should work closely with their advisor to select the required courses for the degree, required MnTC courses for the 40-credit Minnesota Transfer Curriculum and their MnTC electives.
