Description: This course will explore design concepts associated with the areas of aesthetics, branding, and user experience (UX). You will apply these skills to individual and team projects throughout the semester. You will develop a unique point of view about decision-making with regard to preferred techniques, frameworks, and platforms in building professional quality portfolio responsive websites.

Topical Outline:

1. Advanced concepting through the use of design process: 1.) Defining the problem, 2.) Envisioning the solution, 3.) Defining the approach through research, 4.) Testing possible solutions through prototyping, 5.) Choosing and activating the best solution, and 6) evaluating and adapting solutions for future implementation
2. Explore different design roles, such as project manager, web strategist (UI/UX architect), content specialist, SEO strategist; front-end and back-end developer
3. Analyze past, present, and future social changes and evolving global trends, and how these affect current design standards
4. Analyze design problems and choose the appropriate technology – Current HTML and CSS, CSS frameworks, content management systems, client- or server-side technologies – for achieving a solution that fits the needs of stakeholders
5. Strategies for effective communication with clients, employers, colleagues, and other third parties

1. Apply a clear understanding of the design process
2. Analyze and evaluate current technical solutions to implement a suitable solution for the design problem
3. Integrate knowledge of cultural views and global trends associated with design outcomes
4. Demonstrate advanced ability to plan and communicate abstract conceptual ideas through the design and presentation process

 

Prerequisites:

GRPH 1101, GRPH 1130, WEBI 1416, GRPH 1575, and WEBI 1622;or instructor approval.
